IGP Sued by 82 police officers for failing to promote them

Eighty-two (82) police officers who felt unfairly treated by the Ghana Police Service after they finished their studies under the service’s study leave with pay policy have filed a lawsuit against the Attorney General (the first defendant), the Ghana Police Service (the second defendant), and the Inspector General of Police (the third defendant).

Police officers, led by D/Inspector Kofi Osal, who were granted study leave with pay for the 2017–2018 academic year, filed a lawsuit at the High Court of Accra accusing the Ghana Police Service of denying them their justly earned accelerated promotions or admission to the Police College after successfully completing their studies.

Mynewsgh.com sources say they insist that even after duly notifying the Ghana Police Service upon completion of their programs of study and petitioning it to promote them, the police service still failed to promote them notwithstanding the fact that other persons under similar circumstances have been promoted.

The eighty-two police officers noted that the Ghana Police Service engaged in an “unfair and unreasonable exercise of discretion, the failure to uphold the duty to be fair and candid not to act in a capricious or biased manner or be driven by resentment, prejudice and personal dislike on the part of the 2nd[ Ghana Police Service] and 3rd[ the IGP] defendants,” and therefore demand that the Court give “(a) An order directed against the 2nd and 3rd Defendants to grant those amongst them who qualify for accelerated promotions as well as permit all of them to enter the Police College/Academy without any further delay.
(b) Any or further orders as the Honourable Court may deem fit”.

The suit was filed on May 15, 2023, and the Defendants are expected to enter their defense within 8 days after being duly served.

Man city conquers Real Madrid to Reach UCL Final

Manchester City have successfully vanquished the reigning Champions of Europe, Real Madrid, to secure a spot in the Final of the UEFA Champions League.

A four-nil score line was just  enough to give “the Sky Blues” the ticket to face Italy’s Inter Milan for the Final on Saturday, 10th June, 2023 at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.

An assist from Kevin De Bruyne got Bernardo Silva to find the back of the net, 23 minutes into the game.

Bernardo Silva hit a brace, just 14 minutes away from his first goal after making the most of a rebound from the Madrid defense.

Kevin De Bruyne’s magnificent cross got Militao to cause an own goal 31 minutes into the second half; and this got the stadium literally bouncing with joy from the home side fans.

The Etihad Stadium was filled with ecstacy when the fourth goal was registered by the Argentine forward, Alvarez, in the 38th second of stoppage time; the assist from Foden.

This feat, by the England’s Champions, will be their second UCL final under Pep Guardiola; and they’re looking forward to making this count after they suffered a one-nil defeat to the Londoners, Chelsea in 2021.

But the question still remains; will Pep’s Boys finally prove that the “African curse” has been broken as claimed by Yaya Toure’s former agent, Dimitri Seluk?

Court “throws out” Ato Essien’s petition to renegotiate GH60 million payment

The Accra High Court has rejected an attempt by the founder of the defunct Capital Bank, William Ato Essien, to renegotiate a GH¢60 million settlement to the state.

Essien was ordered to pay 20 million of the 60 million by April 28 this year and the remaining 40 million by the end of this year. Essien was found guilty of stealing over GH90 million of the Bank of Ghana’s liquidity support to the bank.

Failure to pay the amount per the agreed terms will lead to the court jailing Essien

Essien failed to pay the GH¢20million by the April 28 deadline and rather paid GH¢4million Wednesday and has further assured the court that he has another Ghc1m to pay by the close of Thursday (May 11, 2023).

Today in court, Essien’s attorney, Thaddeus Sory, made a motion asking the judge to postpone any actions that would land his client in jail and to provide the convict permission to renegotiate the terms of the settlement with the Attorney General (A-G).

A Deputy A-G, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, opposed the motion and urged the court to dismiss, arguing that a grant of the motion would set a dangerous precedent.

The court, presided over by Justice Eric Kyei Baffour, dismissed the application, describing it as one without merit.

Hearing continues on May 17, 2023 for the court to rule an application by the A-G for the court to imprison Essien over his failure to meet the payment deadline.

Highlife music is good for the soul- Tagoe Sisters

Gospel music Twin sisters popularly known as Tagoe Sisters has argued that it is OK for Christians to listen to Highlife music created by non-Christian artists.

Lydia Dedei Yawson Nee Tagoe and Elizabeth Korkoi Tagoe speaking on Kingdom FM explained that the majority of the highlife music that some Christians despise contains very motivational lyrics, making it healthy for the soul.

The duo used highlife singers Amakye Dede and Nana Ampadu as an illustration, saying they have many good songs that have the ability to encourage and drive people just like them.

Tagoe sisters believes everyone is for God. “There is nothing immoral about listening to Highlife music because God lives in Nana Ampadu too”

“Most of the old musicians recorded good music, unlike the new crop of musicians. Comparing Highlife with Gospel music, it looks like we are all in the same thing because of the rhythm. We are in the same industry so we can’t say they are of Satan and we are the children of God”, the duo added.
