Hopeson Adorye, a well-known member of the New Patriotic Party was arrested by the Accra Ministries Police on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
His arrest has sparked a lot of controversies and here is why he was arrested.
Hopeson Adorye, feeling hurt by the New Patriotic Party’s betrayal, claimed in an interview on Accra FM that the NPP used dynamite to scare voters in the Volta Region.
The Ministries Police arrested him on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, for questioning.
On the morning of Thursday, 23 May, 2024, he was taken to the Dansoman High Court amidst chants for his release by members of the Movement for Change.
The Movement for Change leader, Alan Kyerematen, visited him in police custody.
The former member of parliament for Adenta, Buabeng Asamoah after the visit told the media that Hopeson Adorye is not planning to flee the country or his home, despite the police intending to charge him with spreading false information.
Buaben Asamoa suggested that the prolonged detention and transfer to the Ministries might hint at political motives.
