Felix Afena-Gyan rejects Ghana U23 invitation
Felix Afena-Gyan has declined an invitation to play for Ghana’s U23 side in the 2023 U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Algeria.
The US Cremonese striker despite having received permission from his club to depart for national team duty, the 20-year-old player turned down the invitation.
The Serie A side had received travel information from the Ghana Football Association, but the player chose not to participate in the matches against Algeria.
Afena-Gyan was a key member of the Ghana squad that defeated Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup qualification round. He was, however, dropped by Otto Addo and did not reach the final squad list for the World Cup competition in Qatar.
Afena-Gyan got his first goal for his country on June 1, 2022, as part of the Black Stars’ 3-0 victory over Madagascar in the opening game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series.
