Assin North: Supreme Court’s ruling a mockery of justice- Sammy Gyamfi

The judgement by the Supreme Court on Assin North, according to Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s communications officer, is a mockery of justice.

Mr. Gyamfi in his presentation said that reading the 35-page judgment, which ordered Parliament to remove Gyakye Quayson’s name from its records, was saddening because it showed the Supreme Court’s blatant disregard for the law.

“The 35-page judgment of the Supreme Court has only confirmed our [the NDC’s] position that the decision taken by the Supreme Court to annul the election of Gyakye Quayson is nothing but a travesty of justice. You read the entire judgment, and you get sad as a Ghanaian that clear positions of law in this country were clearly disregarded by the Supreme Court in arriving at the conclusion that they arrived at.”

He added that the Supreme Court’s decision regarding Mr. Quayson’s eligibility for the 2020 Assin North parliamentary election violates with the law that court is supposed to uphold and interpret.

“Section 20 (b) of the representation of the people’s PNDC Law 284 is clear that a parliamentary election can only be cancelled if that parliamentary candidate was not qualified at the time of his election, with emphasis on the at the time of his election.

“The Supreme Court says that the Assin North parliamentary elections were held on December 7, 2020, and at the time of that election, Gyakye Quayson had received the renunciation of his Canadian citizenship on November 26, 2020, ten clear days before the election but the Supreme Court is saying that even though he was qualified before the election, he should have been qualified before his nomination and that he submitted his nomination forms on October 9 and that since his certificate of renunciation came on November 26, 2020, he was not qualified by October 9 when he submitted his form, but the law says he should be qualified at the time of the election.”

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi said this on the Eyewitness news on Citi FM

A former Marine turned hitman named Barry Berkman (played by Bill Hader) travels to Los Angeles to carry out a hit but ends up finding a new passion for acting.

Barry, a hitman who is depressed and disillusioned, accepts a contract to kill an ambitious actress in the first episode of the series. Barry discovers Gene Cousineau’s acting class while pursuing his prey and Henry Winkler’s Gene Cousineau is teaching it. Barry decides to enroll in the class because he is interested in acting and wants to find a means to stop living a violent life.

Barry becomes heavily involved in the lives of his students as he begins to explore his acting potential, including Sally Reed (played by Sarah Goldberg), a struggling actress, and his friend Fuches (played by Stephen Root), who acts as his handler in the hitman world. Barry’s dual existence gets more challenging as he tries to match his dark criminal activities with his recently discovered acting passion.

He wrestles with his desire to put his violent past behind him during the course of the series and encounters various moral conundrums. He develops friendships with different characters, notably the eccentric and aspirational NoHo Hank (played by Anthony Carrigan), a Chechen criminal who ends up being a surprising ally.

Barry gets caught up in a web of criminality, dishonesty, and interpersonal conflicts as the story goes on. He must face his own problems and make difficult decisions that will shape his future. The show examines issues of identity, atonement, and the results of one’s choices while fusing humor with darkness.

Each one of us has different way of seeing things, so the series might be humorous, maybe not. Whatever way I hope you enjoy it.  The final is out and I know you can’t wait to watch.
