Love and Detergent: Boy 17 drinks poison over fear of arrest after ‘camping’ girl 15 in his room
I’m called to attend to an emergency. They say a teenage boy has attempted suicide. The size of the crowd gathered at the ward is telling — that this is not only a medical emergency but something of a community concern!
The reports are sporadic. Everyone has their own account. Folks say Yaw ingested poison. Others say he didn’t. Everyone speculates all sorts of stories.
The 17-year-old teenage boy is lying motionless, and unresponsive. We have little history, but we initiate resuscitation.
Half an hour later, his mother is brought in, visibly shaken. She’s having the true story: the facts!
She had noticed that her son was cohabiting with a 15-year-old girl who hails from the neighboring community. Yaw, who has a room to himself, had hosted her for the past 4 days, in spite of repeated warnings from his mother.
This morning, his mother heard of a missing-person-report filed by the girl’s parents through the community information center. She then stood her ground and drove the girl out.
The girl upon reaching home met the wrath of her parents. They got her to lead them back to her hideout, swearing to tear apart the lover boy and his poor single mother.
As events escalated, foreseeing imminent troubles, Yaw locked himself up and gulped copious amounts of detergent.
