NPP Officially Declared Majority Caucus In 8th Parliament

Speaker of Ghana’s 8th Parliament, Alban S.K Bagbin has officially declared the New Patriotic Party as the Majority caucus in parliament following the declaration by the Independent Fomena MP to do business with them.

Alban Bagbin announcing this in parliament today said “What we have now, you have the New Patriotic Party wing or caucus in Parliament together with the independent Member of Parliament from Fomena, and they now constitute the Majority group,”.

This bring to an end of the stretch debate of who becomes the majority and minority of the 8th parliament under the 4th republic.

Some NPP MP’s today made it to Parliament as early as 3am to occupy their seat ahead of their first sitting of the 8th Parliament.

The NPP MPs clad in white arrived early in Parliament to occupy the Majority side of the House.

It will be recall that the NDC MPs did something similar for the inauguration of the 8th parliament and to elect who becomes the next speaker of the 8th parliament.

Meanwhile, leader of the NDC caucus in Parliament Haruna Iddrisu says his side has no difficulties sitting on the Minority side of the chamber.

According to him, the caucus is confident that when the courts decide on the various challenges against some parliamentary seats, they will form the majority without controversies.

“The Ghanaian people want Parliament to work for them and in their favour. In the interest of the Ghanaian people, our side has no difficulties sitting on the left,” Mr Iddrisu told the media Thursday.
