Learn Akan: Know The (Twi) Alphabets and Pronunciation

Twi is one of the most spoken languages in Ghana. It is therefore important to know the alphabet that are used in this spoken language to be able to form sentences.

The Akan alphabet is made up of 22 letters.

20 out of the 22 can be found in the English Alphabet, this is because both the English and the Akan make use of the Latin Script.

The Uniqueness of the Twi alphabet are the two letters in yellow which cannot be found in the English Alphabet. One can be best recalled when you picture the English letter C written to face the left direction to give us the twi alphabet Ɔ. Pronunciation; [Or] (Ɔ). The second unique alphabet is ɛ. It can also be best recalled when you see English number 3 written to face the right direction. Pronunciation; [err] (ɛ)

Just like the English alphabet, the twi alphabet also have Vowels and Consonants.
